Common Questions

What you might be wondering

Plain answers on cost, insurance, confidentiality and what to expect.

01Do you take my insurance?

Some of our clinicians are in network with some plan types, and each clinician's page says which. We do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. If your plan is not covered, you can use out-of-network benefits. Tell us your plan when you write, and we will tell you where it stands.

02What is a superbill, and how do I use it?

A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt that you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether it pays you back and how much, so ask your plan about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits first.

03What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start, and we give you one. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. You can read more at cms.gov/nosurprises.

04How much does it cost, and how do fees work?

Your fee is given to you in writing before you book, and it depends on the clinician. How fees work covers insurance, paying yourself, monthly receipts and estimates. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are held each month; ask when you write to us.

05Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. HSA and FSA cards work for sessions. Your plan sets its own rules about what it accepts, so check with your plan administrator if you are unsure.

06What happens in the first session?

A first session lasts 50 minutes. You talk about what you want from therapy and the pace you prefer, your clinician explains how they work and the limits of confidentiality, and you decide together whether to go on.

07How often will we meet, and for how long?

Sessions last 50 minutes. Many people meet weekly or every other week, but your clinician sets the pace with you and you review it together. We do not promise a number of sessions.

08Are you licensed where I live?

Our clinicians are licensed in Oregon. You can meet us in person in Portland, or by video if you are in Oregon when we meet. We cannot see clients who are in other states.

09What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, at any time. In an emergency, call 911. This website is not monitored around the clock, so do not use the contact form for anything urgent. Crisis and resources lists more help.

10What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you share stays between you and your clinician, with a few legal limits, such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else. Your clinician explains these in your first session. We keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.

11Can you see my teen?

Our clinicians see adults, and family sessions may include a parent and an adult child. If your teen needs a therapist, tell us and we will help you look for a practice that sees teens.

12What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. Ask us how a late cancellation is handled before you book, and we will put it in writing.

Still have questions?

Tell us how to reach you and when. We read messages on weekdays and reply the way you ask us to.
